Shaving During Pregnancy: Everything you Need to Know

Shaving During Pregnancy: Everything you Need to Know

Pregnancy is a time of big (and beautiful) changes.

Your body changes, your emotions change, your habits change.

And often, your relationship with hair removal changes too: what used to be automatic can suddenly raise a lot of questions.

Hair removal during pregnancy is a topic no one talks about

People talk a lot about pregnancy, but almost never about hair removal during pregnancy.

Yet it’s a subject full of doubts, opinions, and (unfortunately) pressures.

At Fler, we often receive questions about it, so we decided to share a few facts in a simple, honest, and taboos-free way 🧡

During pregnancy, the skin becomes more sensitive, more vascularized, and reacts differently to touch or temperature.

Hormonal changes can also affect hair growth, pigmentation, and skin reactivity.

The most important advice?

Be gentle and listen to your body.

It doesn’t mean you can’t shave or wax, it just means it’s best to choose mild methods and gentle products that respect your skin.

What science says

Experts generally agree on a few key points, and it depends on the method you use:

  • Permanent treatments (like laser) are not recommended during pregnancy, due to a lack of scientific data.
  • Other common methods, like razor, waxing, depilatory creams, or electric epilators are considered safe, as long as they’re done carefully and gently.

🪒 Shaving

The most practical and recommended method.

Just make sure to always use a clean, sharp Razor, and never shave on dry skin. Apply a gentle shaving mousse to protect your skin from irritation.

🍯 Waxing

Generally safe, but better if done by a licensed professional following strict hygiene rules.

Just be aware that skin can be more reactive and the high temperature of wax may cause irritation or redness.

🧴 Depilatory creams

In this case, pay attention to the ingredients! Avoid harsh formulas and always do a patch test before use!

Practical tips for safe hair removal during pregnancy

If (and when) you decide to remove hair, here are a few best practices to keep in mind:

  • Always perform a patch test on a small area before trying new products.
  • Use clean, gentle razors and replace them regularly.
  • Avoid dry shaving! Use a mousse or foam to minimize friction and irritation.
  • Moisturize well afterwards with a soothing body lotion.
  • Skip any areas that are red, swollen, or particularly tight.

Where Fler fits in

At Fler, we believe everyone should feel free to choose how they take care of their body.

That’s why our products are:

  • Designed to be effective yet gentle, even on the most sensitive skin.
  • Perfect for pregnancy, if you choose to continue shaving.
  • Tested to ensure they respect your body, always.

And remember: if your skin feels too reactive, just skip the area.

Listening to your body always comes first 🧡
